CPPCA Matrimonial Service Governing Rules.
1. Purpose.
The Matrimonial Committee was enacted by Canadian Pakistani Pakhtun Community Association (CPPCA) to serve its members and the wider Pakhtun community who might be facing challenges in finding a suitable partner for their children or their child children. Pakhtun families usually prefer to have marriages in their own communities. Living in homes away from homes, often it is a challenging task to find a suitable partner for their children from their own community. Because of the cultural restraints and limited community networking in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), it is a challenge that is being faced by the community. CPPCA has made the realization that a committee of it should provide networking services and function as a bridge between the two families who might be interested in inter-community marriages.
2. Way Forward
In the first step, CPPCA Matrimonial Committee has been constituted by the Board of Representatives of the CPPCA. This committee will provide services to the Pakhtun community in Ontario. Later, this service can be extended to the Pakhtun community living in other parts of North America. The services provided by the committee are voluntary and have no monetary value. This service will be extended for free to both members and nonmembers of the CPPCA of Pakhtun origin. The committee function is bridging only and it will be the entire responsibility of the two families to meet with each other and satisfy themselves if they want to pursue the bridging function provided by the committee. The CPPCA Committee and Sub-Committee will not be involved in any capacity or in the deliberations between the two families.
3. Governing Body
The CPPCA matrimonial service governing body consists of the following members. This committee is responsible for making rules for the functioning of the committee.
• Jehan Zeb Convener
• Ms. Shahnaz Aapa Gul (Member)
• Ms. Kush Seerat (Member)
• Ahmad Jan (Member)
• Mohammad Tariq (Member)
• Nasir Khan President CPPCA, Ex-officio (Member).
4. Sub Committee:
There will be a sub-committee that will consist of one female and one male member and may receive information from the community members. Either of the Sub-Committee members can be approached by the community for sharing the Profile of their child for whom a partner is being sought. The following will be the members of this Sub-Committee.
• Jehan Zeb
• Ms. Shahnaz Aapa Gul
Two options are available for sharing information.
Option A: WhatsApp Group including Interesting Families:
This option includes a WhatsApp Group with following as admins.
• Ms. Shahnaz Aapa Gul
• Ms. Khush Seerat
• Mr. Jehan Zeb
A WhatsApp group has been opened and access is provided to those parents/community members who had shared their children or their own information as the case may be on the CCCPA’s approved profile and have shown a willingness to share their profiles within the group. All such individuals can look into all the available profiles themselves.
The available profiles do not disclose the identity of the marriage candidates. If a family/individual finds a profile meets their/his/her expectations it will then request one of the admins to release their coordinates to the other family/individual. After receiving the consent of the respective families/individual, the contact details of the two parties will be shared between them. Thereafter, it will be the sole responsibility of the two parties how to proceed further as deemed appropriate.
Option B: Information Sharing with Sub-Committee Only:
The following are the two members of the CPPCA Matrimonial Sub-committee.
•â€‹Ms. Shahnaz Aapa Gul
•â€‹Mr. Jehan Zeb
Information provided by individuals/families provided to this sub-committee will remain in the custody of the sub-committee members only and will not be shared on the WhatsApp Group under Option A.
The Sub-Committee's function/responsibilities include:
• Receiving information from community members.
• Community members, if interested, will provide information on their children to the Sub-Committee on the approved Profile. The profile includes consent to release information to those families who would have shown interest in the matrimonial services.
• The Sub-Committee shall keep all the information with itself that it has received and will not share it with anyone else except the families who have also provided similar information.
• The information can only be shared with the second family when there is a match between the two profiles.
• The Sub-Committee shall destroy the record received by it from a member when requested as such by the member.
• The Sub-Committee shall also remove the information from their records when a marriage is concluded successfully by the two families and the Sub-Committee is informed.
• The Sub-Committee shall not disclose any information that it has received directly or indirectly from any community member during its tenure to anyone who should not receive such information.
• The Sub-Committee shall maintain a password-protected spreadsheet which will be populated by the two Sub-Committee members when additional Profiles are received.
• The spreadsheet shall be on a shareable platform.
• If a Sub-Committee member resigns, the other member shall secure the information and reset the password.
• The reset password will be shared by the lone member of the Sub-Committee with the new member when appointed.
• If under any circumstances both the members of the Sub-Committee resign or are unavailable due to any reasons, they shall hand over the entire record to the President of the CPPCA.
• The Sub-Committee shall provide a report every year to the CPPCA for its Annual General Body meeting for placement before the members, if applicable.
• The Sub-Committee coordinates will be shared through the CPPCA website and its other platforms so that community members can approach them when needed.
